May 29 2007- 2 Small Pike

And so I went back out to Allport Bay this morning with Maggie & caught this 28 1/2 inch, 4 lb 4 oz Pike. this fish was caught on a #5 Red Mepps. This little puppy was also caught on a #5 Red Mepps. It was only 20 1/2 inches & weighed about 1 1/2 lb. Smallest one so far this year.
Here's something else that you don't see very often in Muskoka. If you look closely enough you will see hundreds & hundreds of small perch. They were in large schools all a long the shoreline in shallow sun exposed bays. And of course where you see bait fish, you find the predators----
---- lots of small bass and----
---- & lots of small Pike! I'm glad I'm a little higher up on the food chain. There was a pretty deadly game of "Survivor" going on today!

May 22 2007-Rick's first Lake Trout

After many attempts, Rick finally gets his very first Lake Trout while fishing with me! It wasn't big, but it was beautiful! He caught this wonderful specimen while I was doing a more than perfect job of navigating the boat. Rick was trolling with a downrigger at 26 feet using a dodger and a minnow. Well done Rick!
My day was not a complete failure.
I was able to take home a 2lb 4 oz Lake Trout to join me for a meal.

May 19 2007-9 lb Pike

Pike fishing officially opened last night at midnight. Of course, I happened to be sleeping & had to wait until today to go. I also had to work today, so I had to wait until after work to go. So, I went home & got Maggie (notice the hair cut) & ---------- ----went down to the "Walkabout" & fished from the dock. And waiting down there was a long & skinny Pike-------
-----measuring around 33 1/2 inches. It didn't fit too well in the livewell, so I weighed it -----
----- took a picture & released it! This Pike came in at 9 lb. It also had a ripped gill cover. Then came the water skiers, so I went home.

May 15 2007-3 Lake Trout (4 lb)

It was good day for fishing on Lake Joe! But it was a good day for fishing on only one side of the boat. It was my lucky day today. I caught all 3 Lake Trout! However; Rick did manage to net all 3 of the fish and none were lost during the landing. This first fish weighed 4 lb 2 oz. The second Lake Trout weighed in at an even 4 lb.
This beautiful speciman topped the scales at 4 lb 4 oz.
All three together!
Here is Rick holding up another successful net job. I took the smaller of the 3 home for dinner & left the other 2 with Rick & Sandra for them to enjoy a delicious meal. The third fish will be enjoyed by the three of us one evening in the near future!
Pike season opens this weekend & hopefully the next post will be just as successful as todays.See you then!

May 8 2007-The Boat is in the Water

Today was my day off. And a great one at that! The temperature reached 26 C, the sun was shining, and there was a nice breeze! Did I mention the "Walkabout" is in the water?
I took the boat out for spin & it rode just great! Time for some fishing! Be back soon with a new post & hopefully a few fish pics.
