Sept 5 2009-Newfoundland Trip-Part 8

The reception! Here are Mel and Jason congratulating each other saying "We did it!" In order to get the bride and groom to kiss, the standard tradition is to clink glasses. This time however, the entire table had to get up and sing. I guess our singing was pretty good. They kissed!

This our table and we had to sing "What the world needs now is love sweet love" We sounded good but we're not quite ready for our first album!

Karin gave an awesome speech that anyone who has raised a teenager could relate to.

One of my favourite pictures. Karin, Jason and Tegan.

Sept 5 2009-Newfoundland Trip-Part 4

The morning of the wedding! We hooked up with Karin and Tegan this morning so we could spend a little time together. First we went to Cora's for Breakfast. The waitress brought a colouring book and crayons over for to our table so Tegan would have something to do while waiting for our meal. But Tegan was not quick enough. I grabbed the book and crayons and began to colour the first picture. I'm not sure if Tegan is upset at me, or just can't beleive that Poppa would be colouring a picture of a frog on a beach. From there we went to the top of Signal Hill for a little sight-seeing, enjoy the view and take a few pictures. Here is a pic of Karin, Tegan and myself. Not often do you see a picture of the three of us together.

Joanne and I decided it would be nice if we had a picture of just the two of us together as well. That's Tegan in the background doing a little exploring.
This is a magnificent view of St John's from Signal Hill.

From there it was back to the hotel to get dressed for the wedding. I took a couple of minutes to whip down to Jason's suite and take a picture of Jason in his last few minutes as a unmarried man!

Sept 4 2009-Newfoundland Trip-Part 3

Friday, the day before the wedding. Waking up this morning we greeted by a beautiful view of St. John's Harbour, with all the big ships coming and going! I could have sat for hours just watching these huge ships going about their business. This is another beautiful view of the harbour. Night time in St. John's.

And here we have a view of the Battery Hotel from the harbour.

After a long walk around the harbour, and the downtown section of the city, we went up to see the Cabot Tower at the top of Signal Hill.

From there we drove around to the other side of the harbour to see what was left of Fort Amherst. At one time this was where all the guns were to protect St John's from invasion. Pretty much all that was left was this lighthouse. All the guns and canons are gone now.

Sept 3 2009-Newfoundland Trip-Part 2

We made it! The flight from Toronto to St John's took 2 hours and 51 minutes and all was smooth and no bad weather. Here is a picture of the St John's airport. Quite a bit smaller than Toronto and a lot easier to get around and out without needing directions. However, we could of used a few directions getting to the Hotel. That's another story. Our rental car for the week. A pretty red Elantra. Finally after a couple a wrong turns we made it to the Battery Hotel on Signal Hill.

A view of our room facing from the window to the door.

And a view from the door to the window overlooking the Harbour. Nice view and a nice room!

Sept 2 2009-Newfoundland Trip-Part 1

Jason and Mel are getting married in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Joanne and I are flying out to join them on this joyous occasion. Because our flight leaves Toronto at 7:30 AM we decided to leave Bracebridge today and stay overnight in the city. Here we are all packed and ready to go! On the way down to the city we decided to stop at Bass Pro Shops for a quick look around and a quick bite to eat. Joanne has never been to Vaughn Mills and we thought we would check it out as well as some of the other shops. While we were there, there was a Boaters Exam booth, so Joanne took the test. And passed with flying colours! Way to go Joanne!
From there, on to the city. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Select so we could Park and Fly.

The next morning (early) we boarded the West Jet Flight 324 Plane.

Up,up and away! Newfoundland, here we come!

Sept 1 2009-Lian and Daryl

Today was very special. Joanne's son, Daryl and his wife, Lian arrived from Edmonton for a holiday in Muskoka. We couldn't think of a better way to spend a beautiful day other than out on Lake Muskoka to do a little fishing and go for a swim. Meet Lian! And meet Joanne's son-Daryl.
While cruising along I managed to catch a very nice 2 1/2 lb Smallmouth Bass.

After all that hard work to catch, take a few pictures, and release the fish it was time for a swim. Lian was the first in---

Then Joanne. I would have gone in as well, but someone had to take the pictures. What a great warm and sunny day.

Tomorrow, Joanne and I are flying out to Newfoundland for Jason and Mel's wedding, and of course our first vacation together.
