March 16 2010-Last Day On The Ice

It was a beautiful morning, so Joanne and I packed up our fishing gear and once again headed out to Lake Joe. The temperature reached a high of 16C. Due to the warm conditions over the last couple of weeks, the ice is quickly becoming very thin in places. At least this fellow is taking no chances. Instead of a snowmobile or a truck, he is crossing the ice in an airboat. Smart!

All over the ice there are areas of open water. This one was just a couple of yards from where we were fishing.

Speaking of fishing, we were having no luck, so I decided to practice my golfing. It was a hole in one.

After a few hours of no bites, Joanne and I decided to put our minds together and levitate the ice chisel. Neat trick! All in all, a great day, and we both ended up with sunburned faces.

March 10 2010-First Fish Of 2010

Udo and I decided to go back to Lake Joe and try again to catch that first fish of the 2010 season. We didn't have to wait very long before the "tip-up" went down and the Lake Trout came up! It was not a monster, but it was beautiful!

The Trout measured 20 1/2 inches and weighed 2.12 Lb. A perfect size to take home for dinner.

This fish is not natural to Lake Joe. This is a stocked fish. You can tell because of the colour of the fish. It is much darker than a natural fish and one of the Pelvic Fins has been clipped.

Once again it was a beautiful day and that was the only fish of the day!

March 3 2010-I'm Back

I'm back, it's 2010, and it's time to go fishing! Instead of our usual fishing spot on Bluege Lagoon, we decided to head out to Lake Joe and see if there were any Lake Trout who wanted to come home with us and join us for dinner. The days are getting longer and the temperature is getting warmer. It's time for lawn chair fishing.

There were quite a few other people out enjoying the weather as were we, but they were having as much luck as Udo and I. No bites and no fish!

Time for a snack and a good cup of hot coffee!

Even the poor Seagull was getting tired of waiting for a free handout. Maybe next week we can hook into a few Trout. Even though we got "Skunked", we still had a great day!
