June 7 2008-Day 6 of my Holidays

I decided to go down the " Walkabout " this morning and do some serious housework. The boat is very dirty and in need of some TLC. A bobber and a minnow off the side of the dock and see what happens.
Along comes my sister Kathy and my no good brother-in-law Andy with their brand new Legend boat. WOW! What a nice package. This boat has everything you need to make fishing a very enjoyable outing. Tons of storage, live well, rod holders, trolling motor, 25 hp 4 stroke Mercury motor, and the list goes on and on.
Next thing you know, they will be catching tons of fish and have their own Blog!

P.S. I didn't catch any fish, but the " Walkabout " is starting to look a lot cleaner!

June 6 2008-Day 5 of my Holidays

Day 5 of my holidays was spent fishing with Rick. The weather was Hot,Hot, Hot! The temperature reached a high of 34 C. The lake was as smooth as glass & the fish were hard to find. First fish of the day was a Smallmouth Bass about 14 inches long. Fish # 2 was another Smallmouth Bass. This one measured 16 inches.
The last fish of the morning was a little 20 inch Pike. That was enough of the heat so we headed home to hopefully find some cooler temperatures.

June 5 2008-Day 4 of my Holidays

Day 4 of my holidays was spent fishing alone. (Not a bad thing.)
I only caught 1 Pike, but that was OK. I did get lots of time to get the "Walkabout" cleaned up a little for the summer season.I also got my flowers planted on the front of the boat. Are they not pretty?

June 4 2008-Day 3 of my Holidays

Brad's first day back to Muskoka since last year.
He started the morning off with small Pike. Followed by another small Pike.
Followed by a big Smallmouth Bass. This beautiful Smallie measured 18 3/4 inches and weighed in at just under 4 lb. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyways. All Bass are out of season & must be released.
Followed by a 6 lb Pike. I also caught a much smaller Pike; but it was camera shy.

June 3 2008-Day 2 of My Holidays

Day 2 of my holidays & only 1 fish today. This little smallie measured 14 1/2 inches. Rick decided to get in the pic with my monster Bass.
The flowers are here & ready to be planted.
P.S. It rained all morning & you know my theory on fishing in the rain. The fish don't bite because they don't like to get wet!

June 2 2008-Day 1 of my Holidays

I went fishing with Casey today on Lake of Bays for some Lake Trout. Here is Casey zooming us along to his favorite secret spot! First fish of the day was a small 17 1/2 inch Trout.
Here is Casey with a Trout just a little bit larger than the first one. This one was 19 1/2 inches.
And here I am with a beautiful 22 1/2 inch Laker.
Here I am again with the same fish. In this picture I took off the hat in case you didn't recognize me in the last pic. All fish were caught using the "hammer" lure. These fish were caught in about 12-18 feet of water. As the water warms up the Trout go deeper and are harder to find. We were back to the dock in less than 2 1/2 hours.

May 25 2008-My Biggest Pickerel Ever!

It's Sunday afternoon, I just finished work, I think I'll go down to the dock and enjoy a little sunshine. Well, hello little fellow. This 20 inch Pike came along and decided to join me. If that wasn't enough, along came this huge Pickerel to join me for a little fun.
This big fella was 27 1/2 inches long!

It weighed in at 8 1/2 pounds! There were a fair number of people at the marina getting ready to head home after a week-end at the cottage so there was no shortage of photographers. Did I mention this was my biggest Pickerel ever?

Second Pike of the day was 27 inches & weighed 4 1/2 pounds.
The third and final Pike was 26 1/2 inches long & weighed in at 4 1/4 pounds.

May 18 2008-It's Pike Season

Finally, it's that time of the year again! Pike season has begun!
I decided to cruise around the bay and do a little casting instead of using the traditional minnow & a bobber.
I made the right choice in selecting a #5 red with yellow Mepps. In less than one hour I caught & landed 5 Pike & 2 out of season Smallmouth Bass. ( all fish were live released )
Pike # 1 was a small 17 1/4 inch. Pike # 2 was larger 28 1/2 inch. Pike # 3 was 20 inches ( no photo )
The first Smallmouth was a respectable 17 1/2 inches.
Pike # 4 was long and skinny. This one was 25 inches long. Pike # 5 was a nice fish measuring 28 inches. ( sorry, no photo. that's another story. )
Last fish of the hour was a 14 inch Smallmouth. Then all the fish seemed to disappear & I went home. All in all, a very entertaining morning & a great beginning to " Fishing Fun 2008 "

Lets Go Fishing!

It's time to start getting excited about putting the boat in the water & go fishing! This picture was taken on April 15 2008. There is still lots of ice on the bay but a least it's starting to break away from the shoreline. The water level is also very high. The ice went out on April 19 2008. However, the water level is so high that all the docks are underwater & there is no place to tie a boat.
May 6 2008. The water level is back down close to normal and the boats are going in!
Here's the Walkabout getting ready to go in to the lake for the season. I'm getting so excited! Lets go fishing!

Feb 19 2008-Ice Fishing

Went out ice fishing for the first time this 2008 season. Joining me on this very cold & windy day was Rick. We went to our favourite summer time location on Lake Joe where we usually catch lots of Lake Trout.
No luck today. At least there was about 10-14 inches of ice and our lives were not in any danger.
However, my brother is having an incredible season on Lake Scugog catching plenty of big Pickerel. Here is Don holding up a big 6 lb 2 oz beauty.
Here is Don holding up another biggie. This one weighed in at 7 lb 4 oz. Way to go Don!
